Broccoli and Cauliflower Puree

3 Servings
1/2 cup broccoli
1/2 cup cauliflower
2 cups water

Broccoli and cauliflower are loaded with nutrients, and aren’t always available in 2 cups water store-bought baby foods. They are both relatively strong-tasting, so if your baby doesn’t like the taste of this dish, wait a few weeks and offer it again.

1. Wash the broccoli. Remove the stems and leaves, and chop the florets into small pieces.
2. Wash the cauliflower. Cut the florets into small pieces, discarding the rest.
3. Place both vegetables into a steamer basket. Add water to the bottom of steamer basket. Bring to a boil and steam until tender, about 15 minutes.
4. Place into a food processor or blender. Puree for about 30 seconds.
5. Add leftover cooking water, 1 tablespoon at a time. Continue pureeing until completely smooth

Baby Broccoli

For any recipe that involves broccoli, it’s always possible to substitute with broccolini, or “baby broccoli.” This variant is often more expensive than regular broccoli, but it is generally sweeter with a milder taste. Try pureeing it with and without the stems, and see which version your baby prefers.
